This hardcover book with 200 full color pages and 250 illustrations presents the work of Roger Capron, the French pottery artist who worked in the 1950' in Vallauris - south of France.
A multifaceted character, Roger Capron is the only French ceramist of his time who both accomplished an important artistic work and founded a leading industrial company.
After having followed the teaching of the decorator René Gabriel, he created in 1946 with Robert Picault the Callis workshop in Vallauris where he developed the emblematic forms and decorations of his work, such as stylized characters, animal inspirations, or even suns.
In 1952, with the purchase of a disused pottery, his industrial adventure began. He develops models for which he renews the decorations for the shows in which he participates each year.
The enamelled tiles that he manufactures in the same patterns as for the other pieces allow, by assembly games, the realization of occasional furniture and decorative panels.
At the end of the 1950s, the order for a 174 m2 fresco for the Cannes ferry terminal introduced him to architectural ceramics. Ten years later, he created the sandstone dance floor for the famous Byblos hotel in Saint-Tropez.
Expanded edition, this work is enriched by an interview with Jacotte Capron.

Cet ouvrage de 200 pages couleurs avec plus de 250 illustrations présente l'oeuvre du céramiste Français Roger Capron.
Personnage aux multiples facettes, Roger Capron est le seul céramiste français de son époque qui ait à la fois accompli une importante oeuvre artistique et fondé une entreprise industrielle de premier plan.
Après avoir suivi l'enseignement du décorateur René Gabriel, il créa en 1946 avec Robert Picault l'atelier Callis à Vallauris où il developpe les formes et décors emblématiques de son travail, tels que les personnages stylisés, des inspirations animalières, ou encore des soleils.
En 1952, avec l'achat d'une poterie désaffectée, commence son aventure industrielle. Il met au point des modèles dont il renouvelle les décors pour les salons auxquels il participe chaque année.
Les carreaux émaillés qu'il fabrique dans les mêmes motifs que pour les autres pièces permettent, par jeux d'assemblage, la réalisation d'un mobilier d'appoint et de panneaux décoratifs.
À la fin des années 50, la commande d'une fresque de 174 m2 pour la gare maritime de Cannes lui fait découvrir la céramique architecturale. Dix ans plus tard, il réalise la piste de danse en grès du fameux hôtel Byblos à Saint-Tropez.
Réédition augmentée, cet ouvrage est enrichi d'un entretien avec Jacotte Capron.
