Descrizione

Wood - species and varieties, by J. Giuliano, Ed. Vial, 8 inches x 10 inches ( 20 cm x 25 cm ), hardcover book with 262 full color pages

This hardcover book of 262 color pages features one 120 of the most commercially available and widely used types of wood.
Each variety is presented in color with two samples from a sectional and quarter cut; an introduction details the characteristics of these two ways of sawing timbers, and their influence on the appearance of the wood.
For each species of wood are indicated the usual name, the Latin name as well as English and German names, and the native names of foreign woods. A map shows the geographical origin of the tree.
The density, appearance (color, wire) and the technical characteristics of the wood (field of application, reactions to drying and machining) are then briefly exposed. The author also presents a drawing of the leaf and the fruit of the tree, which allows, for local varieties, to recognize standing timber.
The number of essences illustrated and described makes it a book reserved for enlightened amateurs or wood professionals wishing to have a reference iconography for identification.

The French texts are written by Jean Giuliano.
