This hardcover book with 190 full color pages is a reference catalog of the work of Robert Combas.
For the first time, the Lambert Collection offers a reference catalog around the work of Robert Combas through the incredible funds gathered by Yvon Lambert.
First art dealer to reveal a founder of the Free Figuration, the gallery exhibits Robert Combas since 1982, a year after the exhibition of the art critic Bernard Lamarche-Vadel. « Finish in beauty » revealed a new generation that claims a return to painting, in response to minimal and conceptual Art. Following the incredible creativity very productive of the artist, the art dealer string of exhibitions in his new gallery, the first to settle in the Marais district in Paris in 1986. Meanwhile and frantically, he buys, sets aside, was offered in a pure relationship of friendship, free paintings, works on paper, paintings on bed sheets, quilts, tablecloths, by constituting- without having previously imagined - the largest collection in the world of this artist, with more than 200 numbers.

This book covers 15 years of creation – the most prolific and creative, 1978-1993 - and all the artist's favorite themes: popular culture, the Mediterranean, the themes of the history of art revisited (mythology, Christian art, battle scenes...).

Born in Lyon May 25, 1957, Robert Combas spent his childhood and adolescence in Sète in a working environment, cosmopolitan and marked by communist thought. He studied Fine Arts in Montpellier from 1974 to 1979. This first change of cultural environment permeates his artistic approach a clever combination of « popular culture » and « legitimate culture ».
Robert Combas He brought the dawn of the 80 a new figurative painting. Present on the art scene since 1979 he created a movement that Ben baptized the « Figuration libre », a movement grouping: Rémi Blanchard, François Boisrond, Robert Combas and Hervé Di Rosa.

Pour la première fois, la Collection Lambert propose un catalogue de référence autour de l'oeuvre de Robert Combas à travers l'incroyable fonds réuni par Yvon Lambert.
Premier marchand à révéler l'un des fondateurs de la Figuration libre, le galeriste expose Robert Combas dès 1982, un an après l'exposition du critique d'art Bernard Lamarche-Vadel. « Finir en beauté » révélait une nouvelle génération qui revendiquait un retour à la peinture, en réaction à l'Art minimal et conceptuel. Suivant l'incroyable créativité très productive du peintre, le marchand enchaîne les expositions dans sa nouvelle galerie, la première à s'installer au coeur du Marais à Paris en 1986. Parallèlement et frénétiquement, il achète, met de côté, se fait offrir dans une relation de pure amitié des toiles libres, des oeuvres sur papier, des peintures réalisées sur des draps, des couettes, des nappes, constituant – sans l'imaginer – la plus grande collection au monde de cet artiste, avec plus de 200 numéros.

Cet ouvrage couvre 15 années de création – les plus prolifiques et créatives, 1978-1993 - et tous les thèmes de prédilection de l'artiste : la culture populaire, la Méditerranée, les thèmes de l'histoire de l'art revisitée (la mythologie, l'art chrétien, les scènes de bataille...).

Né à Lyon le 25 mai 1957, Robert Combas passe son enfance et son adolescence à Sète dans un milieu populaire, cosmopolite et marqué par la pensée communiste. Il étudie les Beaux-Arts à Montpellier de 1974 à 1979. Ce premier changement d'environnement culturel imprègne sa démarche artistique d'un savant mélange de « culture populaire » et de « culture légitime ».
Robert Combas a apporté à l'aube des années 80 une nouvelle peinture figurative. Présent sur la scène artistique dès 1979 il est le créateur d'un mouvement que Ben baptisa la « Figuration libre », mouvement regroupant : Rémi Blanchard, François Boisrond, Robert Combas et Hervé Di Rosa.
